Most introductions go smoothly. These habits help keep them that way.
Warning signs
- Anyone who asks for money, gifts, or loans before you have met in person.
- Refusing a video call, or always having an excuse.
- Pressure to decide quickly, or to keep the conversation secret from family.
- Details that keep changing, or a photo that does not match the person.
- Requests for bank details, OTPs, or documents.
Meeting safely
- Meet first in a public, comfortable place.
- Involve parents or trusted relatives from the start.
- Tell someone where you are going and who you are meeting.
- Prefer daytime meetings, and arrange your own travel.
Check for yourself
- Speak with the family, not only the individual.
- Ask for references, and talk to relatives or neighbours who know them.
- Take your time. A genuine family will understand.
Protect your information
- Do not share bank details, OTPs, passwords, or identity documents.
- Be careful with photos. Share them only with people you trust.
- Keep full addresses private until both families are comfortable.
If something feels wrong
- Stop contact and do not send money.
- Keep screenshots and messages.
